From the next 1 April the new Harmonized Standard Consultant system will start, which, in the objectives of the European Commission, will contribute to improving the quality and availability - in terms of time - of the safety standards for products placed on the European Union market.
The HS Consultants will act as intermediaries between the technical committees and the relevant Commission services. More specifically, they will evaluate to what extent the documents drawn up by the European Standards will conform to standardization requests (what were once known as 'mandates') and to what extent they deal with (and support) the essential or other requirements established from the corresponding harmonization legislation.
The aim of this new framework is to strengthen communication between the Commission and the Consultants, creating greater coherence and transparency in the evaluation process in the various sectors. All this in order to provide the best possible services to technical committees.
For this activity, the Commission (following a special call) has appointed Ernst & Young as contractor responsible for the team of consultants
On the occasion of a first presentation event, Ernst & Young outlined the main aspects of the new system: here available the proceedings of the event.
