The May 16 was approved in the Council of Ministers, the Legislative Decree 18 May 2018, n. 65 "Implementation of the Directive (EU) 2016 / 1148 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 6 July 2016, laying measures for a common high level of network and information systems security in the Union", which also transposes the Directive in Italy NIS (acronym NIS - Network and Information Security) laying measures for a common high level of security of networks and information systems in the Union.
The (EU) 2016 / 1148 Directive on Networks and Information Systems Security in the Union is the first horizontal EU legislation to address cybersecurity challenges, which has truly revolutionized cybersecurity resilience and cooperation in Europe.
The directive has three main objectives:
- improve national cybersecurity capabilities;
- strengthen cooperation at EU level;
- promote a culture of risk management and incident reporting among the main economic actors, in particular operators providing essential services for the maintenance of economic and social activities and digital service providers.
