In 2002 the Italian Association of Machinery, Plant and Equipment Manufacturers for Food Production, Processing and Preservation was founded, an expression of the Unions of machinery and plant manufacturers for the food industry.

Assofoodtec protects and promotes the interests of its member-companies through participation in the main technical committees, national and international, in the drafting of product technical standards, in supporting the interpretation and application of regulations and in the daily challenges of the world market through committees UNI (Italian Standardization Body), CEI (Italian Electrotechnical Committee), CTI (Italian Thermotechnical Committee), CEN (European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), NSF Food Equipment Joint Committee and UL Standards Technical Panels.
Asoofoodtec adheres to ANIMA (Confindustria Meccanica Varia) and, at the European level, to EUROVENT (Europe's Industry Association for Indoor Climate, Process Cooling and Food Cold Chain Technologies).
It is a strategic partner of HOST (Equipment, Coffee and Food International Hospitality Exhibition).
